Featuring- Evelyn S. Thomas – Sex on the “Right” Side- Part 2

Greetings Everyone!

As Evelyn and I talked about what part 2 of Sex on the “Right” Side would look like I was and excited.  We were in the same book (God’s word) on the same page, going in the same direction! On a common ground with God’s intent for sex and especially survivors of sexual abuse.  Someone made a decision for us.  Someone reasoned that it was their right to steal our right to decide to whom we would give our body. Their decision opened a door that was NEVER meant to be opened. A door opened to a world of darkness. The world that some victims dwell in and rationalize their existence. How awful it is to feel you have no choice because one dark night a thief visited your body, mind, and soul.

For me, the rationalization lasted until one day in October 1998 the Holy Spirit said STOP I want something different and fresh for YOU! That ended my rationalization and I took back the right to make my choice about who I would give myself too.

A side note: I am researching marriage and marriage vows and I thought I would share this one with you.

The Jews anciently used the same phrase [Godwin Jew. Customs.] Be unto me a wife, and I according to the word of God, will worship, honour and maintain thee, according to the manner of husbands amongst the Jews, who worship, honour and maintain their wives.  http://anglicanhistory.org/sparrow/rationale/matrimony.html

Evelyn presents us with hope as she talks about Sex on the “Right” Side Part 2

Sex on the “Right” Side

Part 2

In June of this year, I wrote part one of Sex on the “Right Side. In that article, we explored and defined that the “right” side for sexual relationships is after marriage. While this is biblical and righteous, I don’t want anyone to go away feeling as though there is no hope if they have experienced premarital sex. The truth is, many have violated this biblical principle, but we know God is a forgiving God. Therefore, the purpose for part two of this article is to assure readers that all is not lost if they did not wait to have sex on the “right” side.

Romans 3:23 submits that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The good news that gives us hope is in Romans 3:24, which proclaims that we are justified by His grace as a gift through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. This shines the light on the goodness and graciousness of Almighty God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

My desire is that your take- away from this article is the realization of the power of God’s love, which we do not deserve and cannot earn. When we study God’s word and develop an awareness of His love for us, we no longer feel condemned; instead, faith and hope become apparent in our behavior. In other words, when we develop a personal relationship with The Lord we desire to be faithful and obedient to the principles He has in place for our lives, and we experience life according to His will, full of grace and mercy.

Romans 8:1-5.There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.[a] 2For the law of the Spirit of life has set you[b] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,[c] he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

The idea is to develop discernment and to behave according to the work that the Holy Spirit does in your heart as you grow and mature in the things of God. Knowing this ensures that you are free to move forward and not get stuck in past sins. Once again, be aware that such freedom is nothing that we can earn nor do we deserve it. It is only God’s unconditional love that affords us the hope of living as a new creature in Jesus.

In conclusion, we must consider the whole scope of “Sex on the “right” side. The purpose of part one is to heighten awareness of the fact that premarital sex is a sin, a sin that is so common that it is often overlooked as sin and accepted as inconsequential. Heaven forbid! if we as Christians don’t address this as a serious issue. However, we want to bring to the forefront that just as any sin, God is a merciful and gracious God who has provided a way of salvation and spiritual renewal through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Bear in mind that not only has He made a way for salvation and renewal, He has sent The Comforter, the Holy Spirit to keep us on the path of righteousness. Therefore, we need not live in bondage to past sin. Regardless of what our past entails, when we accept and confess Christ as Lord and Savior of our life and when we purpose to live God’s will for our life, we can, “forget those things that are behind and press on to what lies ahead”. (Phil.3:13)
