A Sovereign God

Psalm 115:3 (NASB) But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases.

Psalm 135:6 (NASB) Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.

To believe a Sovereign God, we must first believe there is a God who is independent of anything and anyone! The creator who does what He wants, when He wants, how He wants, where He wants!

To believe in Sovereign God, we must embrace and hold to the God of creation. The God in Genesis 1:16-18.

Genesis 1:16-18 ( NASB ) God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.

We must believe He is, He was and always will be.

The God of Synergy

God is the POWER at work in Synergy – He combines the power of the good, bad and ugly of our life experiences, and He works them together for the greater than the total power achieved by each working separately.

God is intense and indestructible. He is a living force at work on our behalf!

Trusting a purposeful and independent God

To God, there are no accidents or coincidences there are only opportunities for God to show off!  Some of us struggle with what we have done in life and what others have done to us. But God does not create or allow accidents. Everything God does or allows is on purpose. And NO! We don’t like that it is on purpose, but accepting His sovereign will is freedom, and I’m still learning!

God can take what someone meant for our death and gives us life. Our situation is more about the big picture that only God can see!

Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.

God is a power mixer

We all love power mixers like Sunbeam, KitchenAid, Hamilton Beach; the more powerful the better.

I love Banana Pudding! When I make a Banana Pudding the eggs, by themselves, don’t taste good. And the flour by itself is not all that tasty! I don’t like milk, but when you add milk to these and other ingredients, a delightful Banana Pudding is born!

God is the greatest of great! He works within our lives and is able and wants to create greatness and goodness out of the bad situations in our lives!

Let’s look at examples of bad experiences that are not accidents

  • We weren’t born into the wrong family,

  • We are not accidents because we are born out of illicit relationships!

  • We are not accidents because we are children birthed out of rape!

  • We are not accidents because we bore abuse!

  • We are not accidents because we were plundered, ravaged, and left for dead!

  • We are not accidents because growing up; we did not know who our parents were!

  • We are not accidents because we became a member of the system and outsourced to abusive homes!

  • We are not accidents because our father or mother disowned us!

  • We are not accidents because we were abandoned and left in trash!

  • We are not accidents because we lived a neglected life in the presence of a mother or father!

  • We are not accidents because our siblings abused us!

  • We are not accidents because we lived in terror within the walls of a Christian home!

The God that creates good out of what was meant for evil!

  • We worked hard and got an excellent education!

  • We found great jobs and are thriving!

  • We are in beautiful relationships!

  • We are in beautiful and loving marriages!

  • We are loving parents to our children!

  • We are learning each day how God wants us to live!

  • We are doing our best to cooperate with God in His plan for our lives!

  • We are at peace through the grace of God!

  • And so much more!

In these examples, the bad outnumbered the good, and often that is how life goes. The good we are experiencing would not be so, so sweet if it had not been for the bad taste left by the bad experiences in our lives!

My plea!

I am asking you to examine your hearts to understand these situations. I didn’t always, but I’m growing into Joseph’s story, Job’s story, and into Romans 8:28!

God’s synergy can do marvelous things in our lives. So we can let HIM be GOD and us, His beloved children.

The choice!

I choose to live under the control of an independent and Sovereign God! The struggle against the power of a Sovereign God is way too hard (been there done that.)

But the choice is yours and yours alone, what will you choose? The struggle of doing life your way? Or giving control over to the will of a Sovereign God!
