Hope in Chaos

By Dr. Joyce M. Kelley

The Scripture Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.” (KJV). This often quoted Scripture speaks of faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. What is this saying to us during chaos?

In these days of chaos, we are faced with many things that we don’t have the answer to. So many questions to be answered; when will COVID end? Will it ever be over? Will the vessels sitting in the ocean ever be unloaded. Will the trucks parked on the streets near the port be unloaded? The burning question resulting from the ships and trucks not being unloaded is, will there be food in the stores for Christmas dinner? More importantly, will we be able to afford it?

Faith and hope go hand-in-hand. Amid the chaos we are facing, we must have faith that things will get better. At the same time, we must continue to keep hope at the forefront. We must trust in the living God for our hope. Our hope is eternal because it rests with God, and it rests within us. That hope that rests within us is tied to faith.

Matthew 17:20 tells us of a conversation Jesus was having with the disciples about a boy with a demon. It did not work when the disciples tried to cast out the demon as they had so little faith. Jesus replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” NIV.

I say to you, in chaos, there is always hope. Where there is faith, there is hope right next to it. If you start to lose hope, just look inside yourself, turn on your faith, and your hope is right there. You will begin to see that things will get better. Remember, faith and hope go hand-in-hand. There is always hope in chaos because you are that hope. Be blessed.
